Day 20 of #MyEDSChallenge … behind the scenes

Behind the scenes …. is just a boring mess. Fatigue from EDS and my ADHD/executive function challenges mean my home is always a huge mess. I try to stay in the messy/untidy realm and not get too far into the actual dirty/unsanitary realm, but I struggle to stay on top of any non-critical chores.

Sometimes I fantasize about hiring a cleaner to do the cleaning I don’t enjoy (because it either injures me or exacerbates my fatigue)—thinks like scrubbing the shower (or tub if we had one), vacuuming, or dusting. But even that is an obstacle because I realize that the “mess” needs to be picked up before they can even get to the carpet to vacuum! I wish there was someone to help with filing and otherwise keeping track of papers or other things.

For example, right now I’m desperate for new prescription sunglasses because sunlight feels like daggers in my eyes (I recently learned that’s part of autonomic dysfunction related to EDS—pupil dilation is one of the autonomic functions). But, I need them to be lightweight, because the reason I don’t wear my current prescription sunnies is they are just so heavy, which bothers my nose and makes them slide down all the time. So, I’ve been looking at online glasses places that have lightweight frames. I finally got my inter-pupil distance measured and was ready to pick out some to try …. when I realized I can’t find my glasses prescription because it’s a little scrap of paper and I really, really struggle with little scraps of paper! I have piles and boxes of papers scattered all around, but I feel like I need to set up the card table and sort through them all to find the prescription. So, instead I’m trying to make an appointment at the eye doctor to just get a new prescription. It’s a great example of how my fatigue and my ADHD/disorderliness interact and are a total showstopper.
